Docent/Volunteer

Become a Docent at The Kreeger Museum!

Our dedicated volunteers are a diverse group of all ages, from different backgrounds, with a variety of life experiences, all joined together by an interest in the Museum and its mission to promote modern art, architecture and music. The Kreeger Museum offers two types of volunteer positions with numerous benefits and free parking.

Docent training session

Tour Docent

Provides 90-minute tours to visitors discussing art and architecture of The Kreeger Museum. The Education Department offers an intensive course on the collection and training on tour techniques.

Information Docent

Welcomes visitors and provides general information about the museum, collects donations, sells postcards and answers questions about transportation, restaurants, etc. in Washington, DC.

Docent Benefits

Docent Education

For the continuing education of all docents, the Education staff provides lectures and workshops on a monthly basis. Attendance by tour docents is strongly encouraged, all are welcome.

Docent Meetings

This is an opportunity for staff and docents to discuss and share news and happenings at the Museum. Guest speakers have included Eric Denker, Warren Robbins, Sally Shelburne and Peter Kreeger.

The Docent Council

The Docent Council consists of docents elected by the docent body to act as a liaison between staff and volunteers. The Council also organizes enrichment programs throughout the year. Past examples include visits to the Hillwood Museum and Tudor Place as well as private tours of artists' studios.
