This is one of Mondrian's earliest paintings (as well as the watercolor of Dying Sunflower also in the Kreeger collection) and one can still notice the influence of Impressionism in his work in the focus on the transient moment in time and the play of light and color in landscape. Oostzijdse Mill with Panoramic Sunset, Mill at Center is painted from nature as was characteristic of the movement. Furthermore, Mondrian stays true to a particular emotional realism of landscape painting with a strong emphasize on color.
