Painting CollectionHenri Fantin-Latour The Wave (1836—1904) Henri Fantin-Latour was a French painter and lithographer working in the second half of the nineteenth century. He is best known for his flower paintings, but he also painted mythological themes such as the subject matter depicted in The Wave. Here a woman, most likely a water nymph, rides the currents of the water. One can see Fantin-Latour attempting to reconcile new ideas in art with the more classical ideals through his work. |
