In 1930, Klee joined the Dusseldorf Art Academy, where he remained for three years until Nazi pressures brought about his dismissal. That year he produced 149 color sheets, as his gouaches were called; this picture belongs to the category his son, Feliz Klee, calls his “Second Bauhaus” style, and shows a “Constructive influence.”
